Union Baseball’s Elijah Ramsey Named GSC Freshman of the Year

JACKSON, Tenn. – Elijah Ramsey named Freshman of the Year by the Gulf South Conference after slashing .273/.351/.340. Ramsey makes history for the Bulldog baseball program, becoming the first player recognized with a major end of the year award since Union joined the Gulf South Conference in 2012-13.

Ramsey, a Freshman out of Millington, Tenn., recorded 41 hits in 150 at bats in his first year as a Bulldog. He drove in 14 runs and scored 21 times for Coach McGehee’s offense. Ramsey reached base 13 times via walks and six times via hit-by-pitch. On the base paths, Ramsey stole seven bags on seven attempts.

The highly touted Freshman batted .295 in Gulf South Conference play, recording 31 hits in 105 at-bats.

Ramsey also played exceptional defense for the Bulldogs, sharing time in each outfield position as a Freshman. He recorded 85 put-outs and four assists, three of which coming in the same game versus Lee University on April 13th. He finished his first season at Union with a .967 fielding percentage.
