Shelby Bondurant and Molly Kizer unquestionably left their mark on Union City High School tennis.

The two-time state runner-up Lady Tornado doubles tandem put a final exclamation point on their illustrious careers by being named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Class A All-State team today.

The honor was the second in as many years for the UC duo, which graduated in May as the two winningest players in program history.

Bondurant, who played in the No. 1 singles spot for three years and as part of the Lady Twisters’ top doubles team in all four of her seasons, compiled a 126-64 combined career record.

She made the state doubles tournament three times in four years, enjoying tremendous success while teaming with Kizer the past two seasons after being paired with Annie Wade as a freshman and as a sophomore.

Kizer ended up 120-64 in singles and doubles, playing as the No. 2 singles seed the past two years and with Bondurant in doubles.

Together, they posted a 39-15 record with a pair of district and regional titles in addition to state runner-up honors.

Tom Sisco, who coached the pair during each of their four seasons, heaped considerable praise on both players – calling them “Easily the best two players I had the privilege of coaching.

“With the caliber of players we’ve had to come through our program, it speaks volumes to the success they had to finish No. 1 and No. 2 in wins. They played with a tremendous amount of confidence, and they worked so hard to improve from their freshman year to their senior season.

“It’s a fitting final honor for them to receive this recognition.”
