CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.– The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team earned its second straight draw after a 1-1 decision at in-state rival Austin Peay this afternoon.
UT Martin led the Governors in shots (13-11) and targeted six attempts on goal. Izzy Patterson scored her first goal of the season by launching a screamer to the back of the net in the 14th minute. It marked the seventh goal in the career of the senior out of St. Louis, Mo.
Peyton Cook matched a career-high seven shots and put three on goal for the Skyhawks, who are now 0-1-2 on the season. Patterson sent three shots away and two on goal while Alberte Amby (two shots, one on goal) and Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles (one shot) additionally contributed to the UT Martin offensive attack.
Goalkeeper Mac Titus played the full 90 minutes and made a match-high seven stops. Parker Gelinas, Allie Buchmann, Shayla Addington and Patterson all went the full distance in the contest.
The Skyhawks unleashed four shots on target in the opening 20 minutes and cashed in with Patterson’s long range blast that caught the Austin Peay defense off guard. All four of Titus’ first-half saves came in the first 25-plus minutes as the senior from Chelsea, Ala. carried a shutout into the intermission.
The Governors (2-0-1) were able to equalize the match off a corner kick in the 50th minute, knotting the score at 1-all on the first shot attempt from either side of the second half. Titus recovered to make three more saves – thwarting Austin Peay scoring tries in the 56th, 61st and 77th minutes. UT Martin’s Cook (62nd minute) and Amby (81st minute) guided potential go-ahead shots on goal but the Governors made tough saves to result in the draw.
The Skyhawks will return home to battle Indiana State on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
