UT Martin Volleyball’s Kylie Surratt Named OVC Volleyball Freshman of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After pacing the University of Tennessee at Martin in kills during all three matches of the Crimson Tide Invitational, Kylie Surratt was voted Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week this afternoon.

A 6-0 outside hitter, Surratt becomes just the sixth player in school history to win an OVC Freshman of the Week award.

Surratt began her collegiate career with 13 kills and nine digs in Friday’s narrow five-set loss to defending Southern Conference regular season champion The Citadel. Later that day, she compiled the first double-double (15 kills, 13 digs) of her young career while adding a .278 hitting percentage and three service aces in the victory over Grambling State. The Maryland Heights, Mo. native wrapped up the weekend with team-highs of four kills and seven digs at tournament host Alabama on Saturday.

For the week, Surratt accounted for 32 kills (2.67 per set), 29 digs (2.42 per set), three service aces and three blocks in 12 combined sets.

UT Martin will make its home season debut this weekend, playing host to the Skyhawk Classic on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7. UT Martin will square off against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (11:30 a.m.) and North Alabama (6:30 p.m.) on Friday before concluding the tournament against Missouri State at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
