Union Volleyball Wraps Up Play In Union University Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team began their season by hosting the Union University Volleyball Classic on Sep. 6 and 7. In addition to Union, the tournament featured Carson-Newman University, Harding University, Limestone University, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis with the Lady Bulldogs facing every team once.

On day one, the Lady Bulldogs played a five-set thriller against Limestone, ultimately falling 2-3, and then lost in three straight sets to USML. On day two, Union dropped matches to Carson-Newman and Harding with scores of 1-3 and 0-3 respectively.

Reese Owens passed 500 career digs during the weekend and also led the team in service aces with 10 while tying Marie Torosian for the most kills with 40. Torosian also had the most digs for the Lady Bulldogs with 46. Ashley Pruitt led the team in assists with 99. Hope HarringtonSydney Whittaker, and Owens led in blocks with seven each.

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will host the second Union University Volleyball Classic of the season on Sep. 13 and 14 in Fred DeLay Gymnasium. On Sep. 13, the team will play at 1:00 p.m. against Southern Arkansas University and at 7:00 p.m. against Southwest Baptist University. On Sep. 14, they will face Edward Waters University at 3:00 p.m. and Ouachita Baptist University at 7:00 pm.

The Gulf South Conference opener for Union will be at home against Trevecca Nazarene University on Sep. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
