JACKSON, Tenn. – Diego Medina’s third goal in as many games was all Union men’s soccer needed to get past Missouri S&T on Friday night in a 79-minute affair abbreviated by ferocious rain and deteriorating field conditions.

The defensive contest contained just four shots on goal by each team. Medina’s game-winner broke through in the 64th minute on assists by Kobi Mosley and Wesley Mhlanga, both passers’ first of the season.

Six Bulldogs have now assisted five different goal-scorers.

Union boasts two of the four GSC men’s soccer players with three or more goals. Ashanie Kennedy, like Medina, scored in three straight games to open the season and nearly made it four on Friday, booting a ball off the top woodwork in the 9th minute of the game. Kennedy also finished with a shot on goal to add to his team-leading total of six.

Through four matches, Union (3-1-0) has allowed just an even goal per match and carries one of the better scoring margins in the league (+1.25).

Tommy Scahill tallied four saves en route to the second clean sheet of his season and career. The junior has a nonexistent season GAA through 168 minutes.

The homestand continues for Union, which will next play Christian Brothers on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Admission is complimentary as a courtesy of FirstBank.
