CLEVELAND, Miss. – Union women’s soccer ceded a 2-0 second-half advantage on a rainy Monday afternoon at Delta State and drew 2-2 for the second time in three days.

The Lady Bulldogs (2-2-2) remain unbeaten in GSC play through three matches at 1-0-2. Delta State is 1-3-2 (0-1-2).

By drawing twice over the weekend, which was extended to Monday due to weather conditions, Union claimed two of six possible points on the road trip.

The Lady Bulldogs lit up the scoreboard in the 15th minute on Sophie Walsh’s first goal of the year. Walsh, with the ball at the top of the box, passed it to Rebekah Jackson, who then tapped it back to Walsh and watched the Canadian fling a right-footed strike into the upper-left corner of the net to give Union an early advantage.

Union took the 1-0 edge to halftime despite being out-shot in the first half 6-2.

Lucia Revuelto doubled Union’s margin with her first goal of the season early in the second half. Jackson, involved again, sent a ball into the box from the right side, where it ricocheted off two competing players and found the sophomore forward. Revuelto only had the keeper to beat and did, depositing the ball just inside the post as the keeper lunged to her right.

Revuelto, who leads the conference in assists with six, sits among the GSC point leaders with eight after her goal. Jackson’s assist, her second, to accompany four goals, is good for her 10th point. Union’s GSC-era single-season points record is 20, set by Honeye Heydari in 2015. In 2024, Jackson and Revuelto have contributed at least a goal or an assist in five of six games each.

Union’s 2-0 advantage – its third lead of the weekend – would be squandered again, as the home side went on to score twice in five minutes to rein in the Lady Bulldogs and earn the draw.

In the 62nd minute, DSU senior Jae’lasha Julien brought the Lady Statesmen within one with a superb display of individual skill. After receiving the ball on the left side about 30 yards out, Julien beat a defender, dribbled to her right, and fired quite a long shot over Union keeper Kirsten LaVallee. The strike was Julien’s first goal of the season.

At 67′, Union conceded a penalty to Delta State, whose Ava Webster equalized with her second of the year.

Union placed only three shots on goal to Delta State’s five. LaVallee made three saves in her sixth start of the season.

Union is 2-0-2 this season when scoring two or more goals.

The Lady Bulldogs will now return home for just their second contest of the year at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Kickoff against Montevallo is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is complimentary as a courtesy of FirstBank.
