BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Union senior Kirsten LaVallee has been named GSC women’s soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

The award, which considered performances from September 23 to 29, is the first GSC weekly honor claimed by Union women’s soccer since Rylee Iorio was named Defensive Player of the Week on October 10, 2023.

LaVallee recorded a career-high nine saves in a 2-2 road draw with No. 20 Mississippi College on Friday, countering 20 total shots with a save percentage of 0.818. This outing was the third-highest single-game save total in the conference this season behind two 11-save performances by AUM and West Florida keepers. LaVallee also recorded an eight-save showing against McKendree on September 11.

Among conference stoppers, LaVallee is sixth in saves with 27 and fifth in saves per game (4.5). The Spring Hill, Florida, native has started between the posts in all six Union matches.

Following a 3-0 defeat of Christian Brothers and a pair of 2-2 draws with Mississippi College and Delta State, Union remains unbeaten in conference play. The Lady Bulldogs, who with five points are tied for fourth of 13 in the conference table, will host GSC-leading Montevallo (5-1-1, 4-0-0) on Saturday at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Admission for the 2:00 p.m. kickoff is complimentary as a courtesy of FirstBank.
