RIDGELAND, Miss. –  Braces by Cillian Heaney and Ashanie Kennedy and a season-high 17 shots on goal were all Union needed to thump NAIA foe Tougaloo College 6-1 on Sunday evening at the field of Ridgeland High School.

Tougaloo managed to keep the scoreboard blank for 39 minutes until Heaney collected the first of four Union unanswered goals. Three minutes later, at 44′, Kennedy deposited his second game-winner of the season on an assist by Kenny Nitzsche.

Union took this 2-0 lead into the break, having out-shot Tougaloo 16-1 in the first half.

After 10 second-half minutes, it was Heaney again who extended the lead to three. Nitzsche, who now leads the team with four, was credited with another assist.

Heaney, a transfer from Division I Omaha, co-leads the team with Kennedy at five goals apiece.

Union and Tougaloo traded goals at 66′ and 70′, as defender Kobi Mosley got in on the action and Tougaloo’s Jaheim Latham made the score 4-1.

Kennedy found his second of the game at 72′, and Diego Medina’s fourth of the season in the 76th minute got Union to a half-dozen and the game’s final score.

Union led the home side in shots 34-5 (17-2 on goal) and took nine corners to Tougaloo’s three. Junior Tommy Scahill made one save in his fourth win of the season.

Next, Union will return to GSC action with road matches against West Alabama on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday (3:30 p.m.).
