
MARTIN, Tenn. – The highly anticipated 2024-25 University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball season is near as first-year Skyhawk head coach Jeremy Shulman announced his nonconference opponents today.
UT Martin will take on teams from 10 different conferences as part of a tough 31-game slate in 2024-25. The defending Ohio Valley Conference regular season champion Skyhawks will play 14 games against teams with an above .500 record from last season (including nine contests against reigning 20-win squads) and face five different opponents who made the postseason a year ago.
Included in the nonconference slate are eight road games that will cover six different states. Six matchups will feature first-time opponents (Kentucky Christian, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Le Moyne, Charleston Southern, Montreat and Alabama State) as UT Martin will play 11 games prior to the OVC opener on Dec. 19.
The Shulman Era officially begins on Nov. 4 when the Skyhawks travel to Illinois State for their first trip to Normal, Ill. since the 2016-17 season. The home opener is set for Nov. 7 as UT Martin hosts Kentucky Christian for an 11 a.m. “Character Counts” tipoff involving several local schools.
The next six games on the Skyhawk docket will all be at road or neutral sites. UT Martin will visit North Alabama (Nov. 11) for the first time since 1991 before heading to 2024 NCAA Tournament participant Longwood (21-14 last season) on Nov. 16.
The Skyhawks then travel to the Lone Star State for a two-game Multiple-Team Event. UT Martin will take on 2024 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament participant Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on its home floor before taking on Le Moyne in a neutral-site clash on back-to-back days (Nov. 21-22).
A trip to Thompson-Boling Arena on Nov. 27 is next up on the 2024-25 schedule as the Skyhawks will take on defending Southeastern Conference regular season champion Tennessee, who is coming off a 27-9 campaign and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Elite 8 round. UT Martin rounds out its lengthy road trip against Charleston Southern on Dec. 3.
The first Skyhawk home game in exactly a month will follow when UT Martin takes on Montreat on Dec. 7. The Skyhawks head to Alabama State on Dec. 11 before closing out nonconference action against Champion Christian on Dec. 15, taking on the Tigers for the third straight year.
The previously announced 20-game OVC schedule runs through March 1 as UT Martin faces each league member in a home-and-home series before the OVC Championship tournament on March 5-8 in Evansville, Ind.
