BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Two days after the best performance of her blossoming volleyball career, the Ohio Valley Conference announced University of Tennessee at Martin outside hitter Kylie Surratt as its Freshman of the Week this afternoon.
Surratt becomes the first player in Skyhawk history to be named OVC Freshman of the Week on multiple occasions. The rookie standout also won the award on Sept. 2 and is one of just six players in school history to win this award.
Matched up against current OVC leader Lindenwood this past weekend, Surratt showed out in the second match of the series on Saturday. She dialed up a career-best 20 kills on a .375 hitting percentage – committing just five attack errors in 40 swings. She also added a team-best four blocks, seven digs and a service ace en route to topping UT Martin in kills for the ninth time in 2024.
The 6-0 Maryland Heights, Mo. native became the first Skyhawk freshman since Emily Keaton (20 kills at Murray State on Oct. 28, 2011) to post 20 or more kills in a match.
On Friday, Surratt narrowly missed her third double-double of the season – finishing with nine kills (one shy of the team lead) and 13 digs against the Lions.
For the week, Surratt averaged 4.14 kills per set on a .294 attack percentage to go along with 2.86 digs per set.
Surratt’s 3.15 kills per set against OVC competition ranks 10th in the league. Overall, her 170 kills and 2.83 kills per set average rank as team-highs for UT Martin.
The Skyhawks are back at home tomorrow when they take on OVC rival Southern Indiana. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
