Union Women’s Soccer Falls In Road Heartbreaker To Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – On Oct. 25, the Union University women’s soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Valdosta State University 3-2. With the loss, Union drops to 6-4-2 overall (5-2-2 GSC), while Valdosta State improves to 6-6-1 overall (3-4-1 GSC).

Irene Arias scored both of Union’s goals, the first coming in the 56th minute to pull within one and the second coming in the 82nd minute to tie the game. Madison Woolridge got the assist on the first goal, while Claire Maxon got the assist on the second. However, it was not enough to beat the Blazers, who got the scoring started early with a penalty kick goal by Katherine Kimmel in the 10th minute. Hunter Wallace added another goal for Valdosta in the 51st minute and was assisted by Molly Wooldridge. The ultimate winning goal came in the 88th minute when Valdosta’s Victoria Bahr scored, assisted by Ana Moleka.

Union led in shots and shots on goal with nine and eight, respectively. Valdosta had the most saves with six, corner kicks with three, and fouls with 10.

Arias led the Lady Bulldogs with two goals, which accounted for her two shots on goal. Rebekah Jackson also had two shots on goal, while Sophie WalshEbba Detulleo, Woolridge, and Maxon had one apiece. Kirsten LaVallee played all 90 minutes in goal with one save.

Up next, Union travels to Montgomery, Ala., to face Auburn University Montgomery on Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m.
