
CLEVELAND, Tenn. – On Oct. 29, the Union University volleyball team beat Lee University in a big GSC match as the season nears the home stretch with the final score being 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23). As a result, Union’s record improves to 6-17 overall (4-10 GSC), and Lee’s record drops to 14-12 overall (8-6 GSC).
Even though Union won in four sets, the match was very back and forth. For the Lady Flames, their biggest lead came in the second set when they were ahead 17-9 and then 18-10. For the Lady Bulldogs, it came in the fourth set as they went up 13-5. Union hit 23.3 percent in the match compared to Lee’s 19.3 percent. The Lady Bulldogs also led in kills, aces, and assists with 60, 11, and 59, respectively.
Senior Reese Owens rose to the occasion as she collected 18 kills and 15 digs for the most on the team in those categories. She also hit 32.5 percent. Dylan Tolliver served five of Union’s aces to lead the team, while Hope Harrington had the most blocks with three. Ashley Pruitt and Abby Davis topped the assists category with 29 and 23, respectively.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Memphis, Tenn., for a match with Christian Brothers University on Oct. 31 at 6:00 p.m.
