JACKSON, Tenn. – Union women’s soccer sophomore Irene Arias has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week for her performance last weekend in matches at Valdosta State and Auburn-Montgomery.

Arias scored both goals in Union’s 3-2 loss to the Blazers on Friday, finding the net in the 56th and 82nd minutes to resurrect the Lady Bulldogs from a 2-0 deficit.

On Sunday, she scored the game-winner at AUM as the Lady Bulldogs clinched a GSC Championship berth with a 1-0 triumph over the Warhawks – their fourth shutout of the season.

The Spanish defender’s three goals came on just three shots as she played all 180 minutes of competition.

This award is the program’s first TSWA nod since Rylee Iorio was recognized for her goalkeeping efforts in October of 2022.

Arias and her Bulldogs have one weekend remaining to fight for postseason seeding. The Lady Bulldogs, currently tied for third in the GSC with Lee, will host Trevecca on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and the Lady Flames on Sunday in a 1:00 p.m. showdown. Admission to Smith Memorial Soccer Complex will be complimentary as a courtesy of FirstBank.
