Union Volleyball Edges Christian Brothers For Halloween Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – On Halloween, the Union University volleyball team topped Christian Brothers University 3-2 (25-13, 25-19, 13-25, 18-25, 15-12). The win propelled the Lady Bulldogs into eighth in the Gulf South Conference standings, meaning that they are in the hunt to clinch a GSC Tournament spot with only five regular season matches remaining. Union’s overall record is now 7-17 overall (5-10 GSC), and CBU drops to 7-18 overall (3-12 GSC).

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the match but dropped sets three and four on their way to a close 15-12 win in the fifth set. Both teams hit 22.2 percent in the match, and CBU had the most kills in the match with 60 to Union’s 56.

Marie Torosian and Hope Harrington each served two aces to lead Union in that category. Torosian also collected nine kills and 13 digs, and Harrington led in blocks with 10. Reese Owens led in kills with 12, and she and Dylan Tolliver tied for the most digs with 20 each. Ashley Pruitt was the assists leader with 27.

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to face Auburn University Montgomery, which sits at number nine in the standings. The match is scheduled for Nov. 2 at 2:00 p.m.
