Union Women’s Basketball Wins Season Opener Over Minot State

BILLINGS, Mont. – On Nov. 1, the Union University women’s basketball opened regular season play with a win against Minot State University 86-64 at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at the Trailhead in Billings, Mont. This was the 43rd straight season that Union, ranked 8th in the WBCA Preseason Poll, has won its season opener.

Bethany Dillard led the way for Union with 15 points, while Macey LeeOlivia Lee, and Alexis Callins added 11 points each. Union dominated the first quarter scoring 21 points to Minot State’s three. The Lady Bulldogs never looked back, maintaining at least a 16-point lead for the rest of the game. At halftime, Union led 46-25. The team added 23 points in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth to seal the win.

Shylee Morrison joined Dillard, Callins, and the Lee sisters in double figures with 10 points. Morrison also added four rebounds, second only to Keisharna Lucas who led the team with five. Jazalyn AnousinhKynidi Mason Striverson, and Morrison topped the assists category with four a piece.

Union shot 42.6 percent (29-68) from the field, 39.5 percent (17-43) from three-point range, and 78.6 percent (11-14) from the free throw line.

Emma Mogen led Minot State with 18 points. Minot State shot 44.2 percent (23-52) from the field, 30 percent (6-20) from behind the arc, and 85.7 percent (12-14) from the free throw line.

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will play in their second game of the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at the Trailhead against Texas A&M International University on Nov. 2 at 10:00 a.m.
