
BILLINGS, Mont. – On Nov. 2, the Union University women’s basketball team beat Texas A&M International University 101-78 for their second straight win. It was the first time this season, besides their exhibition game, that the Lady Bulldogs have scored at least 100 points after accomplishing that feat 10 times last season. Union is now 2-0 overall.
Bethany Dillard and Jeremia Montgomery led the scoring for Union with 15 points each. Dillard also scored 15 points in yesterday’s game against Minot State University for the most on the team.
Union had the lead against Texas A&M International from the time that Olivia Lee made the first layup 1:34 seconds into the game to the final buzzer. The Lady Bulldogs were ahead 50-40 at halftime, and both teams scored 27 in the third quarter. However, Union pulled away in the fourth quarter, putting up 24 points to the Dustdevils’ 11.
Three other players scored double digits for Union, including Olivia Lee with 13, Macey Lee with 12, and Alexis Callins with 11. Keisharna Lucas had the most rebounds for the second game in a row, grabbing seven against the Dustdevils. Jazalyn Anousinh and Lucas collected the most assists with seven a piece.
Union shot 47.3 percent (35-74) from the field, 21.9 percent (7-32) from three-point range, and 85.7 percent (24-28) from the free throw line.
Janiya Murphy led the Dustdevils with 15 points. Texas A&M International shot 48.2 percent (27-56) from the field, 25 percent (2-8) from behind the arc, and 72.4 percent (21-29) from the free throw line.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will play their third and final game of the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at the Trailhead in Billings, Mont., against Grand Valley State University on Nov. 3 at 10:00 a.m. Then they will return home for their first regular season game in Fred DeLay Gymnasium this season on Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m. against Williams Baptist University.
