
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The University of Martin rifle team returned to action Friday and took down two school records in the process, despite a shoulder-to-shoulder loss to Memphis, 4710-4666, at the Gamecock Rifle Range in Jacksonville, Alabama.
The Skyhawks shot a 2327 smallbore and a 2339 air rifle for team aggregate of 4666, surpassing the previous school bests in both smallbore and aggregate. The team previously tied the school record in air rifle in its last outing, Nov. 2 at Morehead State.
Liam Tegeler shot a personal-best of 583 to lead the Skyhawks in smallbore, while Joey Kovach, Sadie Palfrey and Alayna Walther clustered tightly behind him at 582, 581 and 581, respectively. The 582 smallbore for Kovach Friday was also a new personal best for the junior.
In air rifle, Aubrey Chenoweth, who posted new career marks in all three categories Friday, led her team with a 590, with Palfrey following at 587 and Kovach and Tegeler rounding out the counters at 583 and 582.
The Skyhawks will return to action at the Gamecock Rifle Range Saturday, Nov. 23, as part of the annual Gamecock Invitational.
