JACKSON, Tenn. – In a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) matchup at JF Lane Gymnasium on Thursday night, Lane College emerged victorious over Clark Atlanta University, winning 77-67.
Both teams entered the contest with identical 7-4 records, but Lane’s dominant first half proved to be the difference.
Clark Atlanta struggled early, falling behind 25-8 in the first quarter. Despite a better shooting performance in the second half, the Panthers were unable to overcome Lane’s efficient attack and strong defense. The first half saw Lane shoot an impressive 66.7% from the field, compared to Clark Atlanta’s 33.3%.
Lane’s offense was spearheaded by Dyani Bernstine, who posted an impressive 25 points and 10 rebounds. Erica Richardson added 18 points, including 3 three-pointers, while Chantoryia Rivers chipped in with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Lane’s overall shooting performance was solid at 43.5%, and they capitalized on Clark Atlanta’s turnovers, scoring 27 points off of them.
The game remained competitive in the second half, especially as Clark Atlanta managed to narrow the gap with a strong 24-point fourth quarter. However, Lane’s defense held strong, with the Dragons forcing Clark Atlanta into 23 turnovers and securing 16 second-chance points.
Lane’s fast break points (25) and solid free throw shooting (19-26) played a key role in sealing the win. The game ended with Lane maintaining control throughout, never allowing Clark Atlanta to reclaim the lead after the first quarter.
Lane improves to 8-4, 4-2 in SIAC play, while Clark Atlanta drops to 7-5, 3-3 in conference action.
