JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lane College Dragons opened their home slate on Wednesday with a pair of wins over Crowley’s Ridge on a rainy afternoon at the West Tennessee Sportsplex.
Game 1
Lane took control early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Kathrynanne Ivy‘s sacrifice fly plated Kyra Vieux, and Koralie Morin followed with a solo home run, giving the Dragons a 2-0 lead. The Dragons continued to build on their advantage in the second inning, scoring two more runs. Jonni Sanchez drove in Ja’Kai Ray with a single, and Jazmyne Brown added an RBI single of his own, bringing Journey Custer to third and Sanchez across the plate to make it 4-0.
In the third inning, Lane broke the game open with three more runs. Sanchez reached on an error by Crowley’s Ridge’s first baseman, allowing Halle Koger to score. Moments later, Custer doubled, scoring Sanchez, and Brown’s single brought Custer home, making it a commanding 7-0 lead.
Crowley’s Ridge (0-1) fought back in the fourth, scoring both of their runs, cutting the deficit to 7-2. However, the Pioneers would get no closer as Autumn Phillips kept them scoreless for the remainder of the game, going the distance with a strong 7.0 innings of work. Phillips gave up just two runs on six hits, walked one, and struck out one to earn her first win of the season.
Game 2
The game was a pitching duel throughout, with both teams struggling to generate offense.
Lane’s pitcher, Koralie Morin, was the standout of the game, tossing a complete game shutout. Morin (2-0) allowed just eight hits, walked none, and struck out five over seven innings of work, keeping the Pioneers off the scoreboard.
The Dragons, on the other hand, were limited to just two hits but made them count. The game’s first run came in the fifth inning when Sanchez grounded out to third on a sacrifice bunt, allowing Kela Ray to score from second. Lane doubled their lead in the sixth, as Koger crossed the plate after a wild pitch from Crowley’s Ridge pitcher making it 2-0.
The Dragons added a final insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on the wild pitch and strong baserunning. Despite being held to just two hits, Lane’s offense worked efficiently with the help of five walks and aggressive base running, including two stolen bases by Jazmyne Brown and one by Kela Ray.
Lane improves to 3-1 on the season and will be back on the road Friday when they travel to Arkansas to take on Henderson State University.
