
COLUMBUS, Ga. – On Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, the Union University softball team played a three-game series with Columbus State University in which they went 0-3. The first and second games were close with scores of 2-0 and 3-0, respectively. The third game was a run-rule in five innings with the Cougars coming out on top 9-0. The Lady Bulldogs are now 0-7 overall, while Columbus State improves to 5-1 overall.
Union had two hits in each of the first two matchups with Morgan Jennings, Camryn Langley, Sarah Kate Thompson, and Hailey Sipes collecting one apiece. The Lady Bulldogs had the bases loaded and the go-ahead run at the plate in the seventh inning of game two but came up empty. The Cougars no-hit the Lady Bulldogs in game three.
Riley Vaughn and Kira Finkley had good outings in the circle for Union during the series. Vaughn pitched all of game one, striking out six Cougars and allowing only two runs, three hits, and four walks. Finkley was the game two starter and held Columbus State to three runs on seven hits and three walks. Emily Claire Felder started game three, and Rylee Moore threw 2.2 innings in relief.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will compete in their first GSC series of the season as Valdosta State University comes to town. First pitch of game one is scheduled for Feb. 15 at 12:00 p.m. at Fesmire Softball Field with game two to follow.
