Lane Women’s Basketball Uses Second Half Surge To Defeat LeMoyne-Owen

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a thrilling SIAC rivalry matchup, Lane College came from behind to defeat LeMoyne-Owen 65-55, improving their record to 15-8 and 10-6 in conference play. The Dragons’ balanced attack was key, as they surged in the second half to secure the win over their rivals.

First Half:

LeMoyne-Owen started the game with a slight edge, taking a 17-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. Nairobi Lewis led the way for the Magicians, scoring 16 points throughout the game, and her hot shooting kept the game close. Despite struggling with their shooting, Lane was able to hang in, staying within striking distance. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with Lane trailing 32-30 at halftime.

Second Half:

Lane’s defense stepped up in the third quarter, limiting LeMoyne-Owen to just 10 points. The Dragons capitalized on this defensive effort, with Dyani Bernstine (12 points, 9 rebounds) and Breonna Carey (11 points, 6 rebounds) leading the charge. The third quarter ended with Lane up 45-42, setting the stage for a strong finish.

In the fourth quarter, Lane’s offense came alive, hitting 5-of-13 from the field and sealing the win with a dominant 20-point output. Chantoryia Rivers was key in the final frame, scoring 10 points to help push the Dragons’ lead out of reach.
