Union Women’s Basketball Cruises Past UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On Saturday afternoon, the No. 15/13 Union University women’s basketball team won 93-58 over the University of Alabama in Huntsville. With only four regular season games remaining, the Lady Bulldogs are guaranteed to host the quarterfinal round of the Truist GSC Championship. Union is now 22-3 overall (17-1), while the Chargers drop to 20-5 overall (15-4 GSC).

Olivia Lee, who leads Union in points per game, continued her streak of dominant performances with a career high 24 points and 11 field goals made. Lee set her previous career high 22 points on Jan. 18 against Trevecca Nazarene University.

The first quarter was tight with Union edging UAH 14-12. From there, the Lady Bulldogs never looked back, taking a 19-point lead into halftime and scoring 25 points in both the third quarter and the fourth to solidify the victory. Union outshot UAH 53 percent to 37 percent from the field and 84.6 percent to 58.3 percent from the free throw line. However, the Chargers outshot the Lady Bulldogs 47.8 percent to 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Four other Union players joined Olivia Lee in double-digit scoring, including Alexis Callins and Jeremia Montgomery with 15 points each and Macey Lee and Bethany Dillard with 11 points apiece. Montgomery was perfect from the foul line (6-6) in the game and also led Union in rebounding with seven boards. Emily Jones dished out a season-high five assists and grabbed six rebounds of her own. Callins and Montgomery each had three steals, and Courtney Zensen and Montgomery put up two blocks apiece. This was a career high for Zensen.

UAH’s Lili Wilken scored half of her team’s points with 29. She also led the Chargers in assists with three. Alexis Woods had a team-high eight rebounds.

Up next, the Lady Bulldogs return home to face the University of West Florida in Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m
