
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lane College women’s basketball team secured a dominant 69-49 victory over Kentucky State on Monday night. The win improved Lane’s record to 16-9 overall and 11-7 in SIAC play, while Kentucky State dropped to 9-16 overall and 8-10 in conference action.
The game was tight early on, with both teams struggling offensively in the first quarter. Lane and Kentucky State ended the period tied at 12, but the second quarter was where the game took a decisive turn. Lane outscored Kentucky State 26-7 in the period, highlighted by an efficient offensive display that included a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Kentucky State, in contrast, struggled with shooting and had difficulty finding the basket, particularly from beyond the arc, where they finished 0-for-9.
Dyani Bernstine was the standout for Lane, finishing a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 16 points. Bernstine also added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal in just 22 minutes of play. Chantoryia Rivers contributed a solid 16 points of her own, shooting 6-of-12 from the field, while also grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists.
In addition to Bernstine and Rivers, Lane’s offense was well-rounded. Breonna Carey added 9 points, and Santia Robinson chipped in 6 points off the bench. Lane’s depth showed, as the team scored 40 bench points, a critical factor in their overall dominance.
Despite Kentucky State’s efforts in the second half, Lane maintained control of the game, closing out the victory with a steady 16-point lead. The Lady Dragons held Kentucky State to just 49 points, aided by their strong defense and ability to convert fast break points (25 for Lane compared to just 9 for Kentucky State).
