Union Women’s Golf Finishes 6th At Low Tide Intercollegiate

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Union University women’s golf team posted a solid sixth-place finish at the Low Tide Intercollegiate Monday at Tuesday. The 3-round event occurred at the Dunes West Golf Club and featured 14 teams with 76 golfers. This was Union’s second tournament of the spring.

Union fired their best round of the week with a 303 in the third round. Only three teams shot a better score in the final round. Union shot 313 in the first round and 324 in the second round as a part of their +76, 940 for the week. Host Limestone University won the event with a +18, 882, shooting sub-300 in all three rounds.

Leading the way for Union was Brooklyn Verdugo with a 13th-place finish. She shot a final round best, 1-under part 71 Tuesday to climb to 13th place. Tournament medalist Claudia Hastings of Limestone also shot a 1-under for the day, the only other under par. Verdugo recovered from rounds of 76 and 82 in the first two rounds respectively to finish +13 for the event. Hastings’ -5 won the event by four shots, one of only two players to finish the tournament under par.

Union’s Abigail Fernadnez finished T30 (+22, 78, 81, 79), while Camille Burnette also finished T30 (+22, 77, 78, 83). Olivia Carroll finished T40 (+25, 82, 84, 75), Aubrey Payne finished 52nd (+30, 85, 83, 78), and McKinnley Korte finished 62nd (+41, 87, 85, 85).

Up next for the women’s golf team will be a trip to Desert Palm, California, Willow Oaks Golf Resort to play in the Augustan University Invitational, March 13-14.
