
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Thursday night, the No. 14/12 Union University women’s basketball team traveled to the Music City to face GSC opponent Trevecca Nazarene University. Four Lady Bulldogs scored double digits in the 77-62 victory, including Courtney Zensen, Shylee Morrison, and Emily Jones with 14 points each and Bethany Dillard with 10. With the win, Union improves to 25-3 overall (20-1 GSC), while Trevecca drops to 7-20 overall (4-17 GSC).
Zensen’s 14 points were a season high for her as she led Union from three-point range, going 4-10. Jones shot 6-13 from the field and had four steals to lead the team in each of those categories. Olivia Lee grabbed nine boards in the contest, and Alexis Callins, Jazalyn Anousinh, and Morrison dished out three assists apiece. Bethany Dillard put up the lone Union block, her first of the season.
The Lady Bulldogs led almost the whole game, but the Trojans remained close until the end, pulling within three points with 9:04 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Union won the first and fourth quarters, 20-7 and 20-13, respectively. Both teams put up 22 points in the second period, and Trevecca scored 20 to Union’s 15 in the third.
The Lady Bulldogs outshot the Trojans 29.2 percent to 20 percent from beyond the arc and 75 percent to 52.6 percent from the free throw line, and Trevecca outshot Union 49 percent to 32.9 percent from the field. However, Union forced 28 Trevecca turnovers to their own 14.
Trevecca’s Amaya Thomas recorded a double-double in the game with 20 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Trojans in both categories. Tatum Shaw and Cheyenne Trotter were part of the Trojan trio that put up double-digits with Shaw scoring 17 and Trotter scoring 16.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Cleveland, Tenn., to face Lee University in what will be each team’s final regular season game. Union lost their only conference game thus far to Lee at home in overtime, so their second matchup of the season is sure to be thrilling. Tipoff is scheduled for Mar.1 at 1:00 p.m. central standard time.
