Union Softball Splits Doubleheader With Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – On Saturday afternoon, the Union University softball team split their doubleheader with Lee University. Lee won game one 3-0, and Union came out on top in game two 5-2. Union is now 5-16 overall (3-7 GSC), while Lee is 13-9 overall (3-7 GSC).

Game two saw Union jump out to an early 2-0 in the first inning as Morgan Jennings stole home and Courtney Marler hit a sacrifice fly. The Flames put up one run each in the second and third innings to tie the game. However, the Lady Bulldogs took the lead back and added to it when they plated a run in the fifth and two in the seventh, one of which came from a Mallory Hildebrand single.

Riley Vaughn got her first win of the season, pitching a complete game and striking out six hitters while allowing only two runs (one earned) on four hits and five walks. Courtney Marler and Morgan Jennings had two hits apiece, and Rylee MooreDenise Pauletich, Hildebrand, and Marler collected one RBI each.

Game one saw Lee take a 3-0 victory with Union being outhit 6-5. Marler led the Lady Bulldogs’ offense with a 2-3 game. Moore pitched all six innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk. She also struck out three Flames.

Up next, Union and Lee will finish up their three-game series on Mar. 8. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
