Though Cole McAdams is stepping down as head coach of Union City High School’s baseball team, his influence on the Tornadoes remains strong.
McAdams’ longtime assistant and former standout player, Austin Atwill, has been named the new head coach of the Twisters. Atwill, who played catcher for McAdams during a highly successful nine-year tenure, takes over the program as McAdams transitions into his new role as Principal of Union City Middle School.
At just 24, Atwill brings both youthful energy and a deep understanding of the program. He’s served as McAdams’ top assistant for the past four seasons and is regarded as one of the finest players to come through the program. His appointment, effective immediately, came with the full backing of McAdams and the UC Schools administration.
Supporting Atwill will be Tracy Bruff, who recently led the UC Middle School baseball team, along with another assistant still to be named.
Meanwhile, the middle school program will also see new leadership. Morgan Capen has been appointed as head coach, joined by returning assistants Blake Gregg and Colin Hatch.
Atwill’s promotion ensures the legacy of McAdams—the winningest coach in program history—will continue to shape Union City baseball for years to come.
