Madison Academic Magnet’s Boys Soccer program has taken off in recent years. Now after lots of heartbreak in the Class A State Tournament, the Mustangs have broken through with the program’s first state title thanks to penalty shootout win over Alcoa.
Making their 3rd straight appearance on the big stage, and 9th overall, Madison breezed into the Final, defeating McKenzie and Gatlinburg-Pittman by a combined score of 9-0 setting up a decisive meeting with Alcoa.
Leonardo Santos drew first blood for the Tornadoes with a 15th minute strike before the Mustangs responded. Donavan Pruitte flipped the game on it’s head with goals in the 21st and 27th minute to give Madison Academic a 2-1 halftime lead. Santos struck again in the 77th minute to level things again and force extra time.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the 2 extra sessions, hinging the already thrilling affair on Penalty Kicks. The Mustangs went a perfect 4/4 to bring home the gold with Kyle Korth scoring the winning PK.
Madison now looks to 2024 to defend their title and return to Murfreesboro for the 4th straight year.
