Buck Buchanan Award Watch List
CHICAGO, Ill. – University of Tennessee at Martin defensive end Daylan Dotson has been named to the preseason watch list for the prestigious 2023 Buck Buchanan Award presented by FedEx Ground to the national defensive player of the year in college football’s Division I subdivision.
Dotson is one of 35 players announced to the preseason watch list. All 15 FCS conferences, which combine to form 13 leagues, are represented on the watch list, including 13 past finalists.
A native of Savannah, Ga., Dotson burst onto the scene for the Skyhawks in 2022 by leading the OVC in both tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (nine). Along with garnering All-American and All-OVC first team honors, he finished the season with 48 total tackles while pacing all FCS performers with five forced fumbles. He was named Stats Perform National Defensive Player of the Week after tallying two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries – including one for a touchdown – in a road victory at Houston Christian last season while also racking up 14 tackles against Kennesaw State.
For his career, Dotson has tallied 68 tackles while notching 18.0 tackles for loss and 11.0 sacks. He has also forced five fumbles and recovered three fumbles in 28 games.
