In a thrilling Friday night showdown, the North Side Indians emerged victorious in the 6th edition of the Madison County Commissioners Cup. The Indians traveled to South Side with the goal of reclaiming their title, after their cross-town rivals had won the previous two championships.
The game started with a bang as North Side’s Kylan Roberson returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, giving his team an early lead. However, the Hawks quickly rallied and scored 20 consecutive points, thanks to the impressive performance of senior quarterback Chuck Stokes, who rushed for two touchdowns. Christian Lo also contributed with two 30-plus yard field goals.
At halftime, it seemed as though South Side was on their way to securing their third consecutive Commissioners Cup victory. However, the second half belonged entirely to the Indians. North Side’s defense stepped up and held the Hawks scoreless, while their offense mounted a remarkable comeback. The Indians scored 17 unanswered points, ultimately defeating South Side by a narrow margin of 23-20.
This victory holds significant importance for the North Side Indians, as it brings their overall record to 4-4 and their region 6-4A record to 2-1. With a first-round home playoff game still within reach, the Indians will utilize their upcoming bye week to prepare for their final two regular-season games against South Gibson on October 20th and Chester County on October 27th.
On the other hand, South Side’s loss dropped their season record to 2-6 and puts them in a precarious position in Region 6-4A. They are on the outside looking in heading into their bye week.
The North Side Indians’ victory in the 6th edition of the Madison County Commissioners Cup showcased their resilience and determination. With their eyes set on a first-round home playoff game, they know the importance of their final two games of the regular season and are looking forward to the challenge.
