BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For just the third time in University of Tennessee at Martin history, a Skyhawk has claimed back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week awards as the league announced Dax Isbell as the winner of that honor today.
Isbell joins four-time All-OVC performer Hunter Richardson (Sept. 13-20, 2017) and two-time All-OVC honoree Jack Story (Sept. 11-18, 2019) as the only UT Martin players to ever win this accolade in back-to-back weeks.
Today’s announcement also marks the third consecutive week that a Skyhawk has won the OVC’s weekly honor – marking the first time in school history that UT Martin has boasted three straight OVC Golfers of the Week.
Isbell produced his third straight top-10 tournament finish at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State at RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark. He finished sixth in the stacked field of 88 golfers, carding a 207 (-9) which included rounds of 69-70-68.
The sophomore from Cumming, Ga. paced the Skyhawks in birdies (13), eagles (one), par-4 scoring (3.90, -3) and par-5 scoring (4.50, -6). Isbell helped UT Martin shoot an 846 (-16) for the 54-hole event, leading to the third straight tournament result where the Skyhawks have been at least 16-under par as a team.
Through four fall tournaments, Isbell leads the OVC in stroke average (69.8) over 12 rounds. He is also responsible for two of the three best rounds by any OVC golfer so far in 2023-24 as his 64 in the third round of the SIUE Dolenc Invitational (Sept. 25) is tied for the best and his 65 in the opening round of the same tournament is tied for third.
UT Martin concludes its fall schedule on Oct. 23-24 when it heads to Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga. for the Pinetree Intercollegiate.
