
KENNESAW, Ga. – University of Tennessee at Martin redshirt junior Jonathan Xoinis stayed hot today in the final round of the Pinetree Intercollegiate as the Skyhawk golf squad wrapped up the fall with their fourth consecutive top-five finish.
Xoinis shot a 71 (-1) today as his Round 3 scorecard featured three birdies and an eagle. His 54-hole score of 215 (-1) ranked fourth in the field of 58 golfers as he completed his second top-five finish of the 2023-24 campaign (also placing third at the Grover Page Classic on Sept. 18-19). The Chattanooga, Tenn. native ranked first in the tournament in par-3 scoring (2.83, -2) and additionally paced UT Martin in par-5 scoring (4.58, -5) and birdies (11).
As a team, the Skyhawks shot a 293 (+5) during today’s third round which led to a third-place finish with an overall score of 881 (+17). It marked UT Martin’s fourth top-five performance out of five highly competitive tournaments this fall.
Grant Phillips shot the second-best score of any Skyhawk today as the freshman out of Marietta, Ga. sank a team-high four birdies (all in the span of six holes on the front-nine) on the way to a 73. Ethan Ray birdied three of his first five holes today before finishing with a 74 while Dax Isbell (two birdies) provided UT Martin’s final countable score of 75.
Jacob Uehlein (81, one birdie) and Luke Caldwell (75, two birdies as an individual) also represented the Skyhawks in today’s final round of the tournament.
Isbell notched his fourth top-20 tournament finish in five tries this season as the sophomore from Cumming, Ga. shot a 222 (+6) to place 18th while leading UT Martin in par-4 scoring (4.07, +2) for the event. The Skyhawk trio of Phillips, Ray and Caldwell each finished with identical 226’s (+10) while Uehlein managed a 229 (+13) overall. The tandem of Ray and Caldwell each tied for the fourth-most pars (34) in the entire tournament.
UT Martin will look to carry over its successful fall semester into its spring slate, which starts on Feb. 19-20 at the WGV Collegiate hosted by Eastern Kentucky in St. Augustine, Fla.
