Union Women’s Basketball Defeats Mississippi College In GSC Opener

JACKSON, Tenn. – On Nov. 25, the Union University women’s basketball team defeated Mississippi College 84-53 to begin Gulf South Conference play. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs’ record improves to 6-0 overall (1-0 GSC), and Mississippi College falls to 1-3 overall (0-1 GSC).

Brooke Hampel led Union in points and rebounds with 20 and six, respectively. Union won the first quarter 24-12 and led 56-29 at the half. The Lady Bulldogs only scored 28 points in the second half but were still able to come out on top, defeating MC by 31 points.

Emma Kallas and Macey Lee also had double-digit points for Union with 12 and 11, respectively. Ten Lady Bulldogs scored in the game. Leah Cauble had four assists. Union shot 51.7 percent (31-60) from the field, 14.3 percent (2-14) from 3-point range, and 71.4 percent (20-28) from the free throw line.

Sky Vaughn led MC with 11 points. Mississippi College shot 50 percent (20-40) from the field, 45.5 percent (5-11) from behind the arc, and 50 percent (8-16) from the free throw line.
