
JACKSON, Tenn. – On Dec. 31, the Union University men’s basketball team beat the University of Montevallo 83-56. With the win, Union’s record improves to 6-5 overall (3-4 GSC), and Montevallo’s record falls to 3-9 overall (2-6 GSC).
Layne Sarver scored 17 points for the Bulldogs, the most on the team and a season high for Sarver. Parker Applegate led in rebounds and assists with nine and five, respectively. Union led 30-28 at halftime and added 53 points in the second half to get the victory over the Falcons.
Ahmad Johnson, Jeremiah Littlepage, and Devaki Garr also reached double digit points in the game with Johnson scoring 16 and Littlepage and Garr each scoring 10. Union shot 47.5 percent (28-59) from the field, 45.7 percent (16-35) from 3-point range, and 61.1 percent (11-18) from the free throw line.
Jaylen Curry led Montevallo with 15 points. The Falcons shot 34.9 percent (22-63) from the field, 23.5 percent (8-34) from behind the arc, and 66.7 percent (4-6) from the free throw line.
