
JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University defeats Shorter University 100-95 in overtime thriller. The Bulldogs record improves to 9-6 overall (6-5 GSC) while Shorter’s record falls to 3-12 overall (1-10 GSC).
After leading by seven points going into halftime, Shorter tied the game with a second remaining to send the game into overtime. David Niven‘s squad prevailed in overtime thanks to a team offensive performance in which four Bulldogs tallied double-digits in scoring. Union is the only school to have both the men’s and women’s teams score over 100 points on the same night this year.
Ahmad Johnson led the Bulldogs with a double-double in which he recorded 25 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremiah Littlepage also recorded a double-double, scoring 19 points and collecting 10 rebounds for Union. Layne Sarver and Jordan Pyke both tallied over 15 points in the overtime victory. Sarver connected from deep five times out of seven total attempts. Justin Debuck led Union in assists with four on the night.
The Bulldogs and Shorter both shot 45.2% from the floor on Thursday night. Union out-rebounded Shorter 40-37 and collected three more assists than the Hawks (15-12). Shorter won the turnover battle versus Union, forcing the Bulldogs to give the ball up 12 times. The game tonight saw eight different lead changes, even with Union leading for over 35 minutes.
Shorter’s Landon Tillman led the Hawks offensively with 25 points off of 8-16 shooting. Tillman also recorded six rebounds and three assists for the Hawks. The Hawks had four players reach double-digit scoring.
The Bulldogs road trip will continue on January 13th versus Lee University. Tip-off in Cleveland is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
