Union Women’s Basketball Falls To Valdosta State For Second Time

JACKSON, Tenn. – On Feb. 10, the No. 3/4 Union University women’s basketball team fell to No.10/8 Valdosta State University 74-56. This was only the second loss for Union this season with the first also coming against Valdosta State. The two teams played earlier in the season on Dec. 17, 2023, in Jackson, Tenn., with the Blazers winning 83-68. The Lady Bulldogs are now 22-2 overall (16-2 GSC), and Valdosta State is 21-2 overall (18-1 GSC).

Macey Lee led Union in points and rebounds with 15 and eight, respectively. The Lady Bulldogs were only down 19-18 at the end of the first quarter and 30-24 at halftime. However, they were outscored 44-32 in the second half.

Shanique Lucas and Emma Kallas joined Lee in double-digit points with 13 each. Kallas also had six rebounds and two assists. The Lady Bulldogs shot 39.1 percent (18-46) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-17) from three-point range, and 88.9 percent (16-18) from the free throw line.

Kalifa Ford led Valdosta State with 30 points and 10 rebounds. The Blazers shot 41.7 percent (25-60) from the field, 27.3 percent (6-22) from three-point range, and 90 percent (18-20) from the free throw line.

Up next for Union, the Lady Bulldogs return home for a matchup with Auburn University at Montgomery on Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
