
JACKSON, Tenn. – Union University splits with the University of West Alabama on Saturday, losing the first game 10-9 and winning the second game 2-1. Union is now 5-5 overall (1-1 GSC). West Alabama is 6-4 overall (1-1 GSC).
West Alabama outlasted Union in the first game of the double header, overcoming a blown seven-run lead to defeat the Bulldogs 10-9. Will Allen Smith, Carson Chavies, Mitch Sisk, Alec Hardy, Grant Ross, Canyon Pace, and Dyllon Barrett all collected multi-hit games in the loss. Sisk is the lone Bulldog to record an extra-base hit, hitting two doubles in game one.
Between the two teams, 32 total hits were recorded in the first game.
In the second game of the evening, Union’s Eli Snelson twirled a gem for the Bulldogs, pitching his first complete game of the season. Snelson gave up a run on three hits and an error. Snelson struck out seven Tigers in his impressive Saturday night start.
Union got on the board first, thanks to a single to right field by Grant Ross that brought Mitch Sisk in to score. Alec Hardy scored Union’s second run in the fifth inning, giving the Bulldogs a two-run lead heading into the back stretch of the game.
West Alabama found their way on the board in the sixth inning. Bryce Newman singled to short right field before eventually being moved around to score on a Houston Kitterman groundout.
Eli Snelson induced a double play before striking out the final batter of the game. Union will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow afternoon starting at 1:00 p.m. General admission is free courtesy of FirstBank.
