Union Baseball Walks Off Lane College

JACKSON, Tenn. – Union played host to the Dragons of Lane College on Tuesday evening at Fesmire Field, in which they won in walk off fashion. Union’s record improves to 7-5 overall and (2-1 GSC) on the season.

Eli Snelson, a Junior from Hartselle, Ala. sent a single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Carson Chavies and Tanner Parmely, walking off Lane in heartbreaking fashion.

Union used five different pitchers in tonight’s game (Cole SmithScotty WyattAlex JohnsonJake Jewell, and Ethan Orwig). All of which combined to give up five runs (two earned runs) on eight hits and two errors. The pitching staff was efficient, allowing just two walks in the game. Orwig was tagged with the win after pitching a scoreless frame in the ninth.

Caden Cutrell had a nice evening at the plate, collecting two hits, one being a homer in the seventh inning. Grant Ross also had a solid showing at the dish, getting three hits (one extra-base hit). Eli Snelson, the late-inning hero, recorded both of his runs batted in on the game winning hit.

Union will host Delta State University at home this weekend. The first game is set to start on Fri. Feb. 23 at 6:00 p.m. The Bulldogs will then play the Statesman in a double header on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
