UT Martin Indoor Track and Field Puts On Strong Performance at OVC Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field teams concluded the indoor season with a bang, notching multiple personal records, school records and podium finishes during the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships.

 

The men’s team earned a podium finish in the long jump while the women’s distance medley relay team landed in third to add to the point total. The Skyhawk men rounded out the day with 33 points and the women snagged 29 points. A grand final of four school records were broken in this year’s championships.

 

Point Scorers

  • The women’s DMR team of Rita Eimer, Lydia Tankersley, Janay Chapman and Maggie Roy crossed the finish line at a time of 12:12.32 to earn third place in the competition and six points for UT Martin.
  • In the men’s long jump, senior MJ Jackson leaped a distance of 7.48 meters to secure second place and eight points.
  • Rita Eimer ran a time of 2:14.88 which locked up fourth place (five points) in the 800 meter.
  • During the 60 meter dash, Chadwick Stewart came up just 0.01 seconds shy of his own PR and school record with a time of 6.85. The time brought in five points and a fourth place finish.
  • Janay Chapman had a history making week by breaking the school record in the 60 meter on back-to-back days, earning a time of 7.70 on Day 2 which was also a PR. The senior added on to those accolades by landing four points in fifth place.
  • The men’s DMR team comprised of Brady Millikin, John Collin Askew, Angus Monro and Hudson Hall locked up a fourth place finish and five points with an impressive performance of 10:09.88.
  • For the third time this season, Lisha McKenzie snapped the school record in the 60 meter hurdles, landing a time of 8.72 seconds in the prelims and an 8.82 during the final round to get fourth place (five points).
  • Freshman Angus Monro ran his best collegiate time in the mile (4:14.86) to secure four points along with fifth place.
  • In the one mile, the Germantown, Tenn. native Tankersley clocked a time of 5:06.14 which ensured three more points and sixth place.
  • A school record was tied in the 4×400 as Khalid White, Samir Smith, Askew and Stewart notched the mark of 3:18.91 that gained four points and gave the Skyhawks fifth place.
  • Sophomore JaDerrika Welch-Fields gave UT Martin three points in a sixth place finish during the high jump where the Haywood, Tenn. native landed a distance of 1.61 meters.
  • Darius Holland was not far off from his teammate Jackson in the long jump, the senior finished in fifth with a distance of 7.23 meters for four points.
  • Holly Henderson was another Skyhawk who etched her name in the record books, the Kingston, Jamaica native went 11.56 meters in the long jump which was also a PR. This added two points to UT Martin’s total with the seventh place finish.
  • Hall competed well in the one mile getting seventh place and two points as he finished at 4:15.58.
  • The 4×400 team of Chapman, Tankersley, Eimer and Roy gave one point to the squad with a time of 4:03.36 to land eighth place.
  • White finished off the Skyhawks’ scoring with a 49.26 finish in the 400 meter that scored yet another point with the sophomore’s efforts.
