
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Union University softball’s Zoey Neal was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 27, and Union softball’s Lainey Baker received the TSWA’s Pitcher of the Week honor for the same week.
Neal, a junior first baseman from Dyer, Tenn., started all five games for Union this week, helping them to a 5-0 record, including a sweep of Delta State. Neal was 6-14 (.429) with three home runs, 14 RBIs, five runs scored, and one walk. One of her homers was a walk-off grand slam in game three of the series with Delta State. Neal also had a 1.000 fielding percentage and 28 putouts.
Baker, a sophomore from Cartersville, Ga., threw eight innings this week for Union, including a one-hit complete game in game one of the series with Delta State and the final inning in game two against Delta State. Union won both games. In her eight innings of work, Baker struck out 14 batters and allowed only two runs (one earned) on two hits.
Up next for the Lady Bulldogs is a road series with GSC foe Valdosta State University. Union will play games one and two on Mar. 2 with first pitch of game one scheduled for 1:00 p.m. central time.
