Jackson, Tenn. – The men’s and women’s basketball teams are set to open up play in the Gulf South Conference tournament today. The No. 5/11 Lady Bulldogs ended the year with a 28-2 overall record (22-2 GSC) while the David Niven-led Bulldogs ended the year 14-14 overall (11-13 GSC).For the past six years, both the men’s and women’s basketball programs have made it to the conference tournament. The Union University men’s basketball team will travel to Carrolton, Ga. for an opportunity to upset the No. 13 team in the nation on Tuesday. In the previous two games with the Wolves, Union lost by double-digit points, but do not let that fool you. Union’s young playmakers will look to make West Georgia uncomfortable after helping the Bulldogs rally late in their season to sneak in the conference tournament. The No. 5/11 Lady Bulldogs will host Delta State at the Fred DeLay Gymnasium on Tuesday. As of late the Lady Bulldogs have returned key injured players for a tournament push. The Mark Campbell-led squad, led by a core group of seniors, will be a tough matchup for any team in the tournament. The Lady Bulldogs proved to be a prolific offensive and defensive program in the 2023-24 regular season. Union defeated the Lady Statesmen in both of their regular season meetings by large scoring margins. The women’s GSC tournament opener game will begin today at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students college or younger.
