DANBURY, Conn. – Three more University of Tennessee at Martin student-athletes were spotlighted as Eastern College Athletic Conference Riders of the Week as Sophia Sundem (flat), Mia McAfoos (horsemanship) and Kate Davis (reining) are the latest to pick up that accolade.

Between Riders of the Week and Riders of the Month, the Skyhawks have now claimed a whopping 27 awards from the ECAC in 2023-24. This marks Sundem’s fourth ECAC weekly honor of the season (also winning on Oct. 16, Oct. 30 and Feb. 19) and first for both McAfoos and Davis.

Those three helped the No. 8 ranked UT Martin squad to a commanding 18-1 victory over Minnesota-Crookston on Senior Day last Friday.

A senior from Carlsbad, Calif., Sundem dialed up an MOP performance in flat courtesy of a career-best 88-point ride on Gus Gus. That marked her team-best seventh win and second MOP while improving her team-high scoring average to 80.4 points.

McAfoos came away with 76 points in horsemanship aboard Dinero, cashing in on her sixth victory and first MOP of the 2023-24 campaign. That additionally elevated the junior from Alton, Ill. to a season scoring average of a team-best 73.3 points per ride.

Hailing from Williamston, Mich., Davis chalked up a score of 70 points on Shiner in reining. That was good enough for her fourth win and second MOP of the season while boosting her season scoring average to 67.9.

The Skyhawks are idle until March 25-27 when they take part in the ECAC Championship in Davis, Calif.
