Union Softball Drops Heartbreaker In CBU Series Finale

JACKSON, Tenn. – On Mar. 10, the Union University softball team fell to Christian Brothers University 6-5 in game three of their series. With the loss, Union’s record is now 15-9 overall (7-5 GSC), while CBU’s record improves to 13-11 overall (7-5 GSC).

The Lady Bulldogs struck early with Courtney Marler and Brooke Puckett each hitting an RBI single in the first inning. Macey Neal added three more runs in the second when she hit her third homerun of the series, a towering fly ball over the right field fence, scoring Bryleigh Carneal and Sarah Kate Thompson. Going into the home half of the second, the score was 5-0 Union. From there, it was all Bucs as CBU scored two in the second, two in the third, and two in the sixth to defeat the Lady Bulldogs by one run.

The Union offense had nine hits in the game. Thompson and Carneal each had two-hit games, and Macey NealZoey NealMackenzi David, Marler and Pucket stroked a hit apiece. Macey Neal led in RBIs with three, and Thompson led in runs scored with two.

Emily Claire Felder started for the Lady Bulldogs, going 2.2 innings and surrendering four runs on four hits while striking out two CBU hitters. Lainey Baker came in for relief and pitched the final 3.1 innings, giving up two runs and striking out four. Baker took the loss which brings her record to 5-4 on the season.

Up next, Union returns home to face Shorter University in a three-game series. Games one and two will be played on Mar. 16 with first pitch of game one scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
