UT Martin Women’s Basketball To Play Holy Cross In First Four of Women’s NCAA Tournament

MARTIN, Tenn. – It was announced tonight that the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will take on Holy Cross in the First Four of the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship on Thursday, March 21. Tipoff time and TV announcements are yet to be announcedThe game will be played at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa with the winner of the First Four matchup slated to played No. 1 seed Iowa on Saturday, March 23.The Skyhawks (16-16) enter March Madness with the Ohio Valley Conference’s automatic bid after clinching it with a pair of victories in last week’s OVC Basketball Championship. Overall, UT Martin has won six of its last eight contests and finished tied for second in the final OVC standings.UT Martin boasts a young roster composed of primarily freshmen and sophomores while the underclassmen group has combined to score 97.5 percent of the team’s total scoring output this season. The Skyhawks also rely heavily on its starting core which has had four of the league’s top six players in terms of minutes played per game.Holy Cross (20-12) recently won its 13th Patriot League Championship and second-straight NCAA big on Sunday afternoon with a 61-55 win over Boston in the league tournament. This is the third straight year the Crusaders have won 20 or more games and 24th time in program history. The Crusaders are led by back-to-back Patriot League Championship MVP Bronagh Power-Cassidy who averages 16.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
