BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Five days after helping navigate the University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball squad to home triumphs over Chattanooga and Austin Peay, the Skyhawks’ No. 2 duo of Sydney Eckhardt and Dylan Mott was named Ohio Valley Conference Pair of the Week.
Today’s announcement marks the fifth OVC Pair of the Week honor for Mott (a redshirt junior from Hendersonville, Tenn.) while Eckhardt (a junior out of Readington, NJ) earns the first such accolade of her young UT Martin career.
Eckhardt/Mott guided the Skyhawks to an extension of two impressive streaks as their 4-1 win over Chattanooga was the program’s 11th straight OVC victory while the 3-2 win against Austin Peay was the ninth consecutive home victory (dating back to 2023).
Continuing their participation at the No. 2 slot of UT Martin’s lineup, Eckhardt/Mott collected their team-high sixth and seventh wins last Thursday. The Skyhawks began the day with a 21-15, 20-22, 15-10 triumph over Chattanooga before wrapping up the double dual with a 21-15, 21-23, 15-5 victory that officially clinched the team win for UT Martin.
The tandem of Eckhardt/Mott have competed exclusively at No. 2 all season, coming away with a 7-3 record. They have won seven of their last nine decisions and four of their last five head-to-head matchups.
The Skyhawks resume their league slate with an OVC Weekend at Chattanooga on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23. UT Martin will see OVC foes Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Lindenwood and Morehead State for the first time in 2024 this weekend.
