MARTIN, Tenn. – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association announced today that Frappe from the University of Tennessee at Martin has captured its Horse of the Month accolade.
Frappe is the first Skyhawk horse to win this award since That’s A Good Point (also known as “Tag” on Dec. 5, 2022).
A 2002 quarter horse gelding who was bred by the Ohio State University Agri-Tech Institute, Frappe was generously donated to the UT Martin equestrian program by Anna Hopla. His 15-year tenure as a member of the Skyhawk equestrian squad makes him the longest standing equine athlete currently in the program. Before he joined the team, Frappe competed in various dressage shows in and around the state of Tennessee.
Frappe competes in the flat event and has averaged just over 81 points this season while receiving one MOP honor. He has helped UT Martin claim a spot in all 18 NCEA top-10 polls in 2023-24, ranking as high as No. 8 to round out the regular season.
Not only is Frappe an excellent flat horse in the ring but he has become a bit of a celebrity in Martin. He makes appearances at Skyhawk football games, on the quad and at community outreach events. Whether he is showing off his award-winning smile, his amazing fist bump or just giving someone their first opportunity to pet a horse, Frappe brings pure joy not only to the team but to so many in the community.
