16 UT Martin Equestrian Riders Earn NCEA APHA All-Academic Awards

WACO, Texas – A total of 16 University of Tennessee at Martin student-athletes combined for 25 National Collegiate Equestrian Association APHA All-Academic awards, the organization announced this afternoon.

The NCEA instituted its All-American program to recognize student-athletes for their success both in the arena and in the classroom. The NCEA released a first team, second team, honorable mention and honor roll squad for the 2023-24 campaign.

Eight Skyhawks earned first team accolades as Elizabeth Becker, Kate Davis, Sydney Hott, Aubrey Malone, Logan Putvinski, Emma Schaefer, Sophia Sundem and Bridget Vieau were all listed. To qualify for the NCEA APHA All-Academic first team, a rider must have competed in a minimum of 70 percent of their school’s meets (not including demo or exhibition rides) and earned a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

Haley Kane was UT Martin’s lone representative on the second team, which requires competing in a minimum of 60 percent of their school’s meets (not including demo or exhibition rides) and a cumulative 3.25 GPA while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

A pair of Skyhawks landed on the honorable mention squad as Lexi Bailey and Mia McAfoos achieved that award. For that accolade, a rider must have competed in a minimum of 50 percent of their school’s meets (not including demo or exhibition rides), posted a cumulative 3.0 GPA and maintained full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

UT Martin was responsible for 14 NCEA Honor Roll recipients, a list that includes Becker, Davis, Hott, Kane, Marci Leath, Malone, Natalie Marques, Putvinski, Emmy Reed, Schaefer, Sundem, Kailyn Veale, Vieau and Rileigh Weiss. This accolade is made up of the top academic students who have earned a cumulative 3.25 GPA while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.
