Union Softball Wins Midweek Contest With Lane College

JACKSON, Tenn. – On April 16, the Union University softball team won 8-5 against Lane College. This was Union’s last midweek game of the season. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improve to 25-18 overall, while the Dragons fall to 29-10 overall.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third when Aspyn Beattie and Kaylee Stinnett each hit a solo home run to put Lane on top 2-0. Union took the lead in the bottom of the fourth after Mackenzi David crushed a three-run home run over the left field fence. Each team plated a run in the fifth inning. Then Shawna McNair scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to give the Dragons a 5-4 lead. The Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of an RBI single apiece from Mallory Hildebrand and Morgan Jennings and a two-RBI single from Macey Neal, bringing the score to 8-5 in favor of Union. In the top of the seventh, the Lady Bulldogs were able to get three quick outs to seal the victory.

The Union offense had nine hits in the game. Macey Neal, Jennings, and David led with two hits each. Neal and David also had three RBIs apiece.

Addison Abell got the start for the Lady Bulldogs, throwing four innings and striking out five while walking only one batter and allowing two runs on four hits. Kira Finkley pitched the final three innings, striking out two Dragons and walking two. She gave up three runs (one earned) on no hits. Finkley got the win, her first of the season.

Up next, Union faces the University of Montevallo in their final GSC series of the season at Fesmire Field. Game one of the series is scheduled for April 19 at 5:00 p.m. General admission for all Union regular season home games is free courtesy of FirstBank.
