MEDINA, Tenn. — One local high school will begin it’s summer break with an official search for a boys basketball coach. South Gibson County High School announced Thursday afternoon that Keith Runyon has resigned from his head coaching position with the program and will retire from coaching altogether.

“After lots of prayer and talking with my family, The Good Lord made it clear to us that it was time to retire from coaching,” said Runyon. “The plan right now is to stay in education and enjoy a lot more family time! I’m not sure where I will be when schools starts in August, but I know Jesus is already there waiting on me.”

During his 3 seasons in Medina, Runyon led the Hornets to one district title (2023), one Class 3A sectional appearance (2023), and three region tournament appearances.

“SGC would like to thank Coach Runyon and his wife, Lori, for all that they have done over the past 3 years to pour into our students. I know that Coach will follow wherever he is lead in this next chapter in his life,” said SGCHS Athletic Director, Mark Dunn.

South Gibson will begin an immediate search for the next head coach of the boys’ basketball program.
